KAMES
Discover the coastal village of Kames, tucked away on the West Coast of Scotland, also known as Argyll's Scret Coast. Nearby is Tighnabruaich where you will find local arts and crafts, cafes and welcoming pubs.  Bordered by Loch Fyne and the Kyles of Bute, this is an area of stunning natural beauty, with hills, glens, rugged coastlines, white beaches, clear waters and ancient forests. The whole area is steeped in Highland history and dotted with ruins, castles and ancient sites.

Around 80 miles from Glasgow by road, one of the most scenic drives in Scotland, a drive along the narrow roads chisled out the hill side offers some of the best great views of the Bute, Arran and the Ayrshire coasts and the hills.

DIRECTIONS
Getting here by road from Glasgow this fabulous drive takes you up the side of Loch Lomond, through the Arrochar Alps and over the world-famous Rest and Be Thankful. The final stretch winds along the coast with the Kyles of Bute stretching out ahead. There are some wonderful viewpoints dotted along this road. Take the A82 along Loch Lomond to Tarbet, then the A83 towards Inveraray and Campbeltown. At Cairndow, turn left on to the A815, then at Strachur turn right on to the A886, signposted Glendaruel and Colintraive. Just after Glendaruel turn right onto the A8003 towards Tighnabruaich.

Getting here by road and ferry is another option is to get the ferry from Gourock to Dunoon and enjoy a drive through remote, mountainous country. You then pick up the same coastal road as above. Take the A8 to Gourock, then Western Ferries from McInroy’s Point to Hunter’s Quay near Dunoon. Turn right on to A815, then shortly after leaving the 40mph area, turn left on B836, a winding single track road with passing places. After about 17 miles, turn right on A886, then left on A8003 towards Tighnabruaich.

Absolutely perfect!
5/5 Stars Upfront Review - September 2023
The property was outstanding in every way. There were eight of us, across three generations of family, and every single one of us was bowled over with the house. There was enough space and sufficient leisure rooms for us all to have our own space, as well as family space together. In addition to being spotlessly clean, it was modern and expansive, both inside and outside, with excellent facilities... including its own private beach! The views were stunning, and I would recommend this to any group wanting a break. The only thing you can't guarantee is the weather, but it was fun to watch not only the variety of yachts sailing past the house, but also the waves getting bigger and bigger from the loch-view window.
In addition to the house being ideal, the letting agents couldn't have been more friendly, efficient, helpful and professional. Their communication with me was excellent, and they went out of their way to make sure we were satisfied at every stage of the process.
Can't praise the whole experience enough.

MOST PERFECT WEEKEND
5/5 Upfront Review - February 2023
What a find this place was. Absolutely stunning home with stunning views. Everything you could possibly need and the BBQ was a fantastic bonus. Despite the cold weather, we were blessed with blue skies and were able to enjoy a lovely BBQ and cold water swim. House was spotless. Pool table was fantastic. Thank you for such a wonderful weekend.

Stunning Cottage

5/5 Upfront Review - January 2023

I have been in this property so many times in the past few years and I do find the cottage absolutely comfortable, tidy and clean.
The owner is very kind and immediately ready to support in anyway.

I’m looking forward to be there soon again.

Beautiful waterside cottage

5/5 Upfront Review - September 2022

Amazing panoramic views over the water. Very comfortable well equipped large house. Just missing a cafatiere. Wouldn't recommend swimming off the beach but a stunning sandy bay at Ostell/Kilbride Bay gave a lovely swim

Fantastic

Vrbo Review - August 2022
The house is fantastic, so roomy with all your entertainment needs catered for. We loved the floor to ceiling windows looking out onto the Kyles. As a family we used the beach everyday in order to launch our kayaks and paddle boards. We love the fact that we saw porpoises and seals swimming by and the boys went snorkelling to look at the sealife more closely. A holiday that made forever family memories.

Beautiful House and location
4.7/5 Upfront Reviews - May 2022

This house sits magnificently on the beach, so close to the water. Every bedroom window and all the living areas look out onto the water, for a relaxing ambience. The house is comfortable, well equipped and the lay out means you can always find a quiet space, The house and location offers something for everyone. We managed to go Paddle boarding, forest and coast walking, appreciate a shinty match, and a park and fairy trail for the wee ones to enjoy. We also watched dolphins and an otter. It’s a house to appreciate spending time with family and at the same time appreciating what nature offers you.

Spring break in Tighnabruaich
5/5 Upfront Reviews - May 2022

Spent a delightful few days with adult children and their partners in this perfect spot.

It certainly lived up to our expectations - a really superior 'cottage' with a location on the water front that is impossible to beat.

Two of our younger members actually went in swimming.

Thanks for a great time.

Stunning house and views

Upfront Reviews - February 2022

The house was incredible, I've never stayed anywhere like it. The kitchen had all the appliances you could need and plenty of dishware.
The beds and bedding were super comfortable and the showers and bath were great.
Outdoor area was fantastic even in February, and we managed to get a dip in the water.

Annual retreat

Upfront Reviews - Sept 2021

I can’t recommend this highly enough, the accommodation was spot on, comfortable and well equipped, amazing views and lots of car park space - so great if you are all travelling from different locations. Couple of lamps needed new lightbulbs but that was a minor issue. Loved the private beach - we went wild swimming everyday (would recommend swim shoes though!)

Taigh na Mara

Upfront Reviews - June 2021

Good value for money. Excellent location. Would be good to have better selection of smaller bowls for serving etc in the kitchen but overall very good.

Even better than before !

Upfront Reviews - June 2021
Our second stay here and the owners have carried out some excellent refurbishments since last year.
The location, facilities, equipment etc are all first class.
The booking agents were very helpful to deal with during the Covid confusion over numbers allowed in the house !

Lovely house

Upfront Reviews - May 2021
Lovely house right on the beach had a great time on the water, great outdoor space, comfy and clean with modern interior. Only downside was BBQ wasn’t available during our visit we would’ve loved sitting outside cooking in the Gazebo area. Apart from that would definitely recommend to friends and family
Thanks again

Stunning location and excellent comfortable accommodation with views to die for.

Upfront Reviews -  May 2021
The location of Taigh na Mara is superb, with beautiful natural scenery all around and it is so lovely and peaceful.
The accommodation is wonderful , we felt relaxed as soon as we entered the house and ready to enjoy our stay.
There are lovely walks in the area and many scenic places to visit..We love Otter Ferry, Portavadie, Tarbert, the Ardlamont estate & Tighnabruich itself. But there are many more beautiful spots to discover.

Fabulous ,well equipped house .Floor to ceiling windows on 3 sides of the lounge, with amazing views onto the water+hills . Brilliant birthday weekend!
4/5 Homaway Away Review Stayed Nov 2019
Booked the house for its location and size for our group of 4 couples who were celebrating significant birthdays.
Location is amazing and the views are spectacular, particularly from the conservatory and deck. The property layout is arranged to take advantage of the outlook.
All rooms are simply furnished and each has a sea view.
The kitchen/ large conservatory area was the most used by our group, followed by the large dining room where we enjoyed having the fire on in the evenings.
We had a wonderful weekend and would recommend the house for groups of family, or friends!

Great holiday house - amazing location
5/5 Star Upfront Review Aug 2018
House was clean and very well appointed with plenty of space for the family. Location was amazing - very secluded and peaceful whilst still being close to all the necessary amenities. We had a great family holiday at Taigh Na Mara.
