DIRECTIONS
Getting here by road (from Glasgow)
This fabulous drive takes you up the side of Loch Lomond, through the Arrochar Alps and over the world-famous Rest and Be Thankful. The final stretch winds along the coast with the Kyles of Bute stretching out ahead. There are some wonderful viewpoints dotted along this road. Take the A82 along Loch Lomond to Tarbet, then the A83 towards Inveraray and Campbeltown. At Cairndow, turn left on to the A815, then at Strachur turn right on to the A886, signposted Glendaruel and Colintraive. Just after Glendaruel turn right onto the A8003 towards Tighnabruaich. Turn right when on shore front and pass the row of shops until you see the life boat station. Park on shore front just past the life boat station and the apartment is the second house across the road.

Getting here by road and ferry
Another option is to get the ferry from Gourock to Dunoon and enjoy a drive through remote, mountainous country. The writer Iain Banks reckons it’s one of best wee roads in Scotland. You then pick up the same coastal road as above. Take the A8 to Gourock, then Western Ferries from McInroy’s Point to Hunter’s Quay near Dunoon. Turn right on to A815, then shortly after leaving the 40mph area, turn left on B836, a winding single track road with passing places. After about 17 miles, turn right on A886, then left on A8003 towards Tighnabruaich.

As always wonderful
5/5 Star Upfront Reviews - October 2023
Another memorable and happy stay at beautiful Derryguaig.
Best self catering accommodation in Tighnabruaich.

Lovely stay by the sea
4.8 Stars Upfront Reviews - September 2023
We really enjoyed our stay at the apartment. Everything had been well thought out and the lovely welcome pack was much appreciated. The location is perfect for sightseeing on the secret coast and also travelling across to Bute for the day on the ferry. We would have no hesitation in recommending this property and would love to return some day.

One of the best
5/5 Star Upfront Reviews - September 2023
We have stayed in holiday homes for many years and Derryguaig is one of the most comfortable and well equiped in an amazing location. It was spotlessly clean, bed and bedding comfortable and good quality. Plenty of kitchen crockery and kitchenware, the extras like toilet rolls, kitchen rolls, cleaning aids etc. were most generous. We enjoyed sitting out in the sunny front garden watching the world go by, the boats and the birds. Mustn't forget our morning visitor, a roe deer coming down for breakfast.

Short Break
5/5 Stars Upfront Reviews - July 2023
Everything was perfect - location, accommodation, service. Hope to go back again for another wonderful, relaxing break.

Total relaxation
4.8/5 Stars Upfront Reviews - June 2023
We had a wonderful stay, so relaxing in an amazingly well equipped apartment with everything you could think of provided in spacious rooms. The location was excellent with easy parking in a quiet village and spectacular views. Definitely somewhere to return and explore local area some more.

Tremendous

Wonderful Christmas at Derryguaig
5/5 Stars Upfront Reviews - December 2022
We had a wonderful stay at Derryguaig by the sea over the festive period. The house was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. The owner was fab and always on hand if needed. There was a gorgeous welcome pack and lovely Christmas decorations adorned the house. We will happily return to this beautiful house.

Return visit to our favourite place.
5/5 Stars Upfront Reviews - October 2022
This is our fourth stay at Derryguaig by the sea since 2020...we simply love this property. The views, walks nearby, beaches, cycling routes-the list is endless... but nothing beats the feeling of home on each return visit. The property is well equipped with everything you need, a wonderful multi-fuel fire, gardens to front and rear and i have to say very welcoming locals. We will definitely return.

Excellent stay

5/5 Star Upfront Reviews - September 2022

A brilliant property for enjoying Tighnabruaich & wider Argyll. Shops and cafes less than 100m away, sea and island views and a very comfortable / well equipped property. I look forward to returning - thank you for all the thoughtful and generous touches.

A fantastic place to stay
5/5 Stars Upfront Reviews - August 2022
We had a brilliant two weeks at Derryguaig and we couldn't recommend it higher. The location is great, close to the shops, cafes and pubs, and close enough to the water so we could swim most days, and watch otters, dolphins and a wide variety of bird and boat life from the front garden or front room. The house was much bigger than we expected, beds were very comfortable, WiFi was excellent, and it was very well equipped, we could not think of anything that was missing. The owners were very helpful and understanding, so all in all heartily recommended.

Beautiful location and property
5/5 Stars Upfront Reviews - July 2022

We have stayed in this property twice and both times it has exceeded our expectations. Great facilities at the property and wonderful views overlooking a peaceful loch. Great place for a quiet relaxing break, with lots to do in the surrounding area.

A beautiful home away from home with outstanding views
5/5 Stars Upfront Reviews - June 2022

A perfect location for our holiday. Extremely comfortable , clean and everything we needed and more.

Another lovely stay

4.8/5 Stars Upfront Reviews - June 2022
This was our third stay at the property. It is ideal for my elderly parents with its location close to the village shops and the porch where they could sit and watch comings and goings when the weather was wet or windy. Midges were out in force that week and seem to have developed a taste for smidge too! I now know why so many people used to smoke! We love coming here and seeing family and friends while enjoying Tighnabruaich as always. Hoping to be back again next year.

Fully relaxing week.

4.8/5 Stars Upfront Review - May 2022

Could not have wanted more from this property and a relaxing week. We weren’t blessed with good weather but that’s a gamble you take when staycationing. However the comfort we found in the apartment when the a long way to make up for this. Thank you so much for the hamper which was such a lovely surprise ( the bread was especially good )
The view from front window was our entertainment on most evenings changing all the time as the weather changed, we also saw the Tighnabruaich lifeboat go out on one occasion it was reported on the RNLI website as being the third time this year.
We had several excellent evening meals at the Portavaidie Marina which is a lovely setting for a relaxed evening. Also the village itself has several place’s to eat which we tried and had excellent meals and service.

I have only one thing to mention that could improve the bathroom for someone like me who prefers a bath to a shower that would be a hand rail to aid getting in and out, as I’m sure Im not your only older guest with arthritic knees.

Hurray!

Very comfortable, well-appointed and welcoming.

Our third stay at Derryguaig in 12 months

Oct 2021
We cannot thank Shirley and Donald enough for their hospitality. The property is such a wonderful place to stay, has everything you need for those cosy nights in (when the Scottish rain descends). The view also makes the property extra special, the location is fabulous for anyone wanting a peaceful setting, whilst overlooking the sea. Although Tignabruaich has a small community, everyone is pleasant and helpful. We have stayed at the property for a period of 4 weeks over the last twelve months-i think that says more than words.

Highly recommend!!

Wonderful Tighnabruaich

Sept 2021
Had a fabulous stay at Derryguaig .
Lovely spacious rooms with amazing views. Great kitchen and conservatory for dining.
Access to local shops and restaurants also easy.
Welcome hamper from the host was a gorgeous surprise.
Loved it all! Thanks Argyll self catering holidays, another great property on your site.

DERRYGUAIG BY THE SEA

Aug 2021
Beautiful water front flat in Tighnabruaich. Very well equipped and with a thoughtful, well stocked welcome hamper on arrival. Dog friendly. Open fire. Lovely garden. Highly recommend.

Yet another fantastic staycation at Derryguaig by the sea!

June 2021
This is our second stay in a twelve month period, and we have rebooked for October.
The property is such a homely place, with everything you need for those nights in beside a log fire. We were gifted with the sun during our stay, so a visit to Otter Ferry and Ostell bay were a must. The villa i believe they call it in bonny Scotland, is very well equipped. The views are spectacular, the village location perfect, with the added bonus of a wonderful tearoom and welcoming local pubs...the local residents were also very helpful.

I'm saddened writing this review for two reasons, one we had to return home and two- others will now have the benefit of this wonderful home in a superb location.

Highly recommend.

Amazing accommodation with the best view ever

June 2021
We have just returned from the most amazing week, the property was truly outstanding and it had everything we needed and more. The view from the accommodation was breathtaking and the weather also helped.
We would definitely recommend this to anyone and we hope to visit again in the not too distant future.
