OTTER FERRY
Cockleshell Lodge is on the east side of Loch Fyne on the B8000, about 16 miles south of Strachur and close to Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. Otter Ferry itself is a quiet backwater but is within easy reach of Inveraray, Bute, Loch Lomond and Dunoon. The drive down the lochside to Tighnabruaich must be one of the most beautiful in Scotland.

The small communities along Loch Fyne are known for their oyster fishing and fine restaurants which offer this delicacy. Close to the small community of Otter Ferry is the Otter Ferry Seafish business, one of several fish farms and hatcheries in the area.

The well-known Oystercatcher restaurant in Otter Ferry is in a beautiful location right on the beach and offers first class food and award-winning real ales brewed locally in the nearby Fyne Ales Brewery at the top of Loch Fyne.

The sturdy whitewashed building is surrounded by plenty of outdoor tables which take advantage of the beautiful views over the loch on fine days.

Quiet Cockleshell

4.5/5 Upfront Reviews -April 2023

We had a wonderful time at our holiday home. Quiet, secluded, away from the huddle and bustle of the city, it’s perfect.
The children were invited to join in a local family Easter egg hunt, very generous of the hosts.
We had a bit of a situation with sinking sand and perhaps a notice near the area would benifit from further incidents happening in the future.
The accommodation is lovely, comfortable and clean, the kitchen is very well stocked, though could do with the addition of some new glasses, the kitchen window doesn’t close, which is fine in the time of year we went, in winter months could be problematic.
We took a couple of trips to Portavride leisure facilities, with its outdoor heated infinity pool, it’s a must if your in the area, you need to book beforehand. Kid friendly.
I would book cockleshell again without any hesitation….we were met by one of the hosts to make sure we had gained access to our accommodation, very friendly and a lovely touch. You come away from cockleshell feeling very relaxed.

Feb 2022 break
4.7/5 Upfront Reviews Feb 2022
Absolutely stunning location, peaceful and ideal for just getting away from busy life. Very well-equipped lodge and comfortable beds. The log fire and heating made for a lovely warm stay whilst the wind howled and snow and hail fell.
Loved being able to let the dogs straight out onto the small beach and they loved their walks along the shoreline and through the woods.
Easy to get to Portavadie and get a ferry to Tarbert to explore a little and dinner at the Oystercatcher was delicious but book first.

Nice quiet place to stay the lodge was lovely thank you.

Lovely place to stay for a few days the lodge was very nice right on the shore.
Cosy and warm in the evening with the log fire on.

Beautiful location

Oct 2021
Cockleshell Lodge is in an amazing location, just steps from the loch. The lodge itself is warm and comfortable.
The lodge is quite remote from shops so be sure to take enough food to store in the ample fridge/freezer.
It’s a bird watchers paradise. The lodge has powerful binoculars.
Perfect for water sports. We intend taking a canoe next time we visit Cockleshell lodge.
Beautiful walks to be had on the estate but be prepared for the weather !
A few kitchen items need to be replaced, eg the cooking knives were blunt and the vegetable sieve was rusty. Minor irritations.
Argyll Cottages were most helpful in adjusting our holiday dates this year. Due to quarantine restrictions in Germany my family needed to return earlier than planned.
We are looking forward to our next visit

Lovely dog friendly lodge

A lovely dog friendly lodge which was clean and well equipped with lots of walks round about. Right on the beach with beautiful dark skies. Would definitely go back.

A beautiful place to stay.

We had a great week at Cockleshell lodge, such a peaceful and relaxing place to stay.
Amazing views and sunsets, lovely walks around the estate.
We were very lucky with the weather and enjoyed sitting out on the deck for morning coffee and enjoying the activity on the Loch most mornings.
Would love to return.

June 2021
Had a fabulous week up here on the shores of Loch Fyne. The lodge is a little tired in places (not that it affects anything) but the location and views more than make up for it. It's just stunning and everyone is so friendly as they walk past. Will definitely come and stay again.

Relaxing days at Cockleshell Lodge

May 2021
We stayed for a long weekend at the lodge and enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere and friendly welcome. Even though the weather was not perfect the lodge was cosy and comfortable with everything we needed and the pub at the end of the road (Oystercatcher Inn) had excellent service and food. Thank you very much for a lovely holiday.

Excellent!

May 2021
A beautiful and peaceful break. The views are spectacular from the lounge area and the lodge is comfortable and warm (the weather was mostly sunny but very cold for May). The log burner was just the job! The pub is close by - an easy stroll and serves excellent simple food. We have booked to come back in November.

A lovely peaceful location
August 2020
Second time I have stayed here. The view is spectacular and the location is stunning. The lodge is comfortable and well equipped. It would be a nice touch to have a welcome food pack with essentials. I am sure people must turn up not realising how far it is to the nearest shop! The booking process is efficient, friendly and helpful. Just hope they can all keep going in these uncertain times. Very happy to support them by holidaying here.

A stunning setting
August 2020
Cockleshell is a very comfortable and spacious lodge in an absolutely glorious setting. It is a long way from shops and busy places- perfect for a restful holiday! Great walks, swimming in the loch, boating etc. Owner Tristan is lovely and on hand for any problems.

Super location, views and easy access to a splendid restaurant meant this was well worth the journey to get there.
