KILFINAN
Kilfinan is a picturesque hamlet on the spectacular Cowal peninsula in Argyll, Scotland. Located on the eastern side of Loch Fyne. This hidden hamlet is 4 miles northwest of the village of Tighnabruaich. Kilfinan is the burial place of the clan chiefs of the Lamonts, in the 13th-century Kilfinan Parish Church. A perfect destination if you are seeking peace and tranqility.

Visit this ancient resting places of the chiefs of Clan Lamont, one of the oldest clans in Scotland.  Kilfinan Parish Church dates back to before the Reformation and houses the Lamont vault which contains an 11th century cross interred remains of the clan’s chiefs. It contains an 11th century cross inspired by the Iona Cross alongside burial stones and other fine pieces of early Christian stonework that date as far back as the ninth century. Although much altered, the church bears much of its original layout with its low ceilings and long and narrow aisle.

DIRECTIONS
Kilfinan is within easy reach of the city of Glasgow. There are two ways to get to Tighnaheaglais Cottage in Kilfinan from Glasgow. Both come through some of Scotland’s most beautiful scenery:

By ferry: (Sat Nav Postcode PA21 2EP) There are regular car ferry services across the Clyde from Gourock (half an hour on the M8 from Glasgow) to Dunoon. Kilfinan is approximately 30 miles from Dunoon, taking the B836 through Glen Lean and then the A8003 around the Kyles of Bute to Tighnabruaich.

or

By road: (Sat Nav Postcode PA21 2EP)
Cross the Clyde on the Erskine Bridge (3 miles from Glasgow Airport on the M8) and take the A82 alongside Loch Lomond to Tarbet then over the “Rest and Be Thankful” (the A83) before turning left onto the A815, sign-posted Dunoon. At the village of Strachur turn right onto the A886 and after 15 miles, just after the Clachan of Glendaruel, turn right again onto the A8003 to Tighnabruaich.

Continue on from Tighnabruaich through Kames, taking a right hand turn on to the B8000, then turning right at Millhouse (staying on the B8000). Eventually this road will take you to Kilfinan and the cottage is directly opposite the local church.

Peaceful stay

July 2021
Booking the cottage was straight forward and the directions easily followed.
The cottage was clean and had all the amenities we required.
The entrance to the cottage is extremely narrow for any family sized car. Widening/improving this access would make a great difference when coming and going from the property.
We really enjoyed our stay, it was ideal for our dogs as they had freedom and safety.
We would definitely recommend Tighnaheaglais Cottage to our friends and family

Wow! Just Wow!

5 Star Trip Advisor Reviewed 27 June 2019
As soon as we walked in, all of life’s stressed sloughed off at the door. The beauty, the coziness, the tranquility crept into our veins and life became perfect. Looking out the twin bedroom window at first light, you see the Scottish flag bellowing in the breeze, welcoming you. The view from the back bedroom shows you the ewes and lambs playing in the morning light, their baying a singsong welcome as well, the view from the front bedroom and the cozy living room is the ancient Kilfinan church and the resting place of ancestors of long ago, even this site welcomes you to the past, a peaceful reminder you are in a part of historic Scotland. The gardens are quiet and well groomed. The kitchen is very nicely equipped with modern conveniences. The temperature in the house was cozy and inviting. So inviting that our party has already booked it for two weeks next year!

Quite get away

5 Star Trip Advisor Reviewed 05 June 2019
This very nice cottage is a great get away spot nestled in the Hills of Kilfinan Scotland , great for a small group or family , we were there for a clan gathering , all the comforts you will need for a stress free time , if your wanting to get away from the outside world , there is no internet and no phone reception , if from the USA you will need plug converters for UK plugs , the people in the area are warm and welcoming , will stay again and again.

Very comfortable stay

5 star Upfront Review August 2017

We had a fantastic stay at Tighnaheaglais Cottage, from the moment we checked in we felt at home. The host had thoughtfully left some little things that would be helpful for us during our stay, the beds were very comfortable, and the entire house cleaned to a high standard. It's very remote, lacking in any cellphone reception or WiFi, but both of these can be found just across the road at the hotel. Definitely check it out if you want to stay in Kilfinan or explore the Cowal Peninsula!
