Great Weekend
4.8/5 Star Upfront review May 2019
Friends and I enjoyed a great long weekend at the Taigh Na Mara. Located on the water with stunning views over the Loch, the house was very spacious and there was plenty to keep us occupied. The outdoor patio area and beach area was absolutely ideal, especially with the great weather we had. If I was nitpicking, the only slight downfall was the interior in some bedrooms were slightly dated. Would definitely recommend to others, fantastic value for money.
An absolute gem of a property beautifully located on the shore at Kames.
4.8/5 Star Upfront Review Oct 2018
Our stay was wonderful. We needed a large house for my extended family and the gentleman at Argyll Self catering Holidays could not have been more helpful on the telephone. The 5 double bedrooms with 4 bathrooms are all nicely furnished and very warm, the laundry is great, and the reception rooms with a sun lounge off the kitchen are very relaxing and spacious. The property is quirky with the entrance from a large level parking area being at first floor level into the games room and some bedrooms, the rest of the accommodation being downstairs. That makes it fun in the first place.
The terraced garden is not suitable for young children i.e. 4 year old grandchildren, but access to it can be prevented so it is not a problem and adults can take little ones down the stone steps to the pebble beach. In the house you do need to tuck all the ornaments away from little fingers and I hope we put everything back in the right place!
The well stocked village shop, a Post Office with small cafe and the pub are only a few minutes walk away and much use was made of them. There is a decent children's playground and Tignabruich with more shops is only a mile away and perfectly walkable if you don't want to drive.
We loved it.
A comfortable, clean and spacious property in a stunning location.

A comfortable, clean and spacious property in a beautiful location. Enjoyed by three generations of our family.
Faultless
4.8/5 Star Upfront review Sept 2018
This rates as the best house we have stayed in and there have been a few over the years. A lot of thought has gone into the layout so 10 people can stay without it feeling crowded. We were stunned by the views over the loch from the living room, bedrooms and the patio /decking area. The kitchen was well equipped, the beds gave an excellent night's sleep and the bathrooms were luxurious. We made use of the bbq and some of us had a game of pool. Only a 10 min stroll to Kames Hotel was a benefit also. Can't wait to return.
Great holiday house - amazing location
5 Star Upfront review Aug 2018
House was clean and very well appointed with plenty of space for all the family. Location was amazing - very secluded and peaceful whilst still being close to all the necessary amenities. We had a great family holiday at Taigh na Mara.
Great views, house and an otter on your beach, what more do you want!
5 Star Upfront review June 2018
We have all stayed in lovely holiday accommodation over the years but I can safely say we all felt this was the best one ever for space, room layouts and the outstanding view. The house has beautiful views over the water from all 3 living rooms and bedrooms. There is ample space for 3 generations to spread out & enjoy doing their own thing but the rooms are also big enough for you all to get together in all the living rooms. There are other houses around but the house and garden is designed so well that you cannot see or hear anyone else although you may occasionally hear someone on the yachts. There are 4 areas to the garden, 3 when the tides in, so you can be out in the glorious sunshine (25 - 30 degrees all week I kid you not!) and not see the rest of the family also outside. The BBQ area is ideal, the rock pools and clambering is great fun & the decking perfect for sunbathing. Care does need to be taken near the edges and the rocks but that's just common sense. If you like wildlife we saw... porpoise on various occasions; an otter on 3 separate occasions but very early & late in the day; a seal while I was sat out having my breakfast ( I lifted my spoon & he was just there in front of me); A pair of oyster catches that go between the wall and the beach depending when the tide is in; 2 swans and gannits diving for fish along with the odd seagull, heron, jackdaws and lots of jelly fish etc There is ample parking for lots of cars, although I wouldn't want to bring an expensive car with low ground clearance on the little lane down. We highly recommend The Little Kitchen & post office, go lots but especially on your last day for breakfast so you can clean down the night before then. We also had good meals at The Kames hotel, The Colintraive Inn and the Botanist.
Wonderful setting and property

5 star Upfront review Oct 2017
Very relaxing, good size of the bedroom, very bright living room, beautiful have bbq outside. Im very satisfied
Family of 10 including grandparents, parents and teenager boys all very happy.
5 star Upfront review August 2017
Taigh na mara was everything we expected. Our family of 10 were more than happy with the location on the shoreline and the added attraction of the pool table kept us all away from phones, ipads etc. As a family we have visited many houses over the recent years and can say honestly this was the best! Teenagers are always the best critics.
Family Seaside Haven
5 star Upfront review May 2017 Fantastic peaceful and tranquil l location right beside sea with panoramic views of Bute. House was well equipped and comfortable great for family occasion. Decking area and conservatory especially attractive in summer months. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend and hopefully will return.
Perfect location
5 star tripadvisor review left on Aug 14, 2016 for a stay in Aug 2016 Stayed here with friends and family for a week in early August. Weather was changeable but typically Scottish. This was more than compensated for by the stunning location and facilities at Taigh na mara. With the children kitted out in wetsuits and buoyancy aids we spent many hours on the water. Having taken an inflatable and outboard for the ' big kids ' to fish from we were set for a perfect week. Catching and eating numerous mackerel proved a hit with all. The house is recently modernised to a high standard and the rooms are all luxurious and wanting for nothing and all with fantastic sea views. If there is one slight minus it is that there a few too many reminders of the owners belongings as if they have moved out and allowed you to 'borrow' their home. We have had numerous self catering holidays around this area and this place is up there with the best. We will be back!
DIRECTIONS: Getting here by road (from Glasgow) This fabulous drive takes you up the side of Loch Lomond, through the Arrochar Alps and over the world-famous Rest and Be Thankful. The final stretch winds along the coast with the Kyles of Bute stretching out ahead. There are some wonderful viewpoints dotted along this road. Take the A82 along Loch Lomond to Tarbet, then the A83 towards Inveraray and Campbeltown. At Cairndow, turn left on to the A815, then at Strachur turn right on to the A886, signposted Glendaruel and Colintraive. Just after Glendaruel turn right onto the A8003 towards Tighnabrauich.
Getting here by road and ferry Another option is to get the ferry from Gourock to Dunoon and enjoy a drive through remote, mountainous country. You then pick up the same coastal road as above. Take the A8 to Gourock, then Western Ferries from McInroy's Point to Hunters Quay near Dunoon. Turn right on to A815, then shortly after leaving the 40mph area, turn left on B836, a winding single track road with passing places. After about 17 miles, turn right on A886, then left on A8003 towards Tighnabruaich.
The directions to Taigh na Mara from Tighnabruaich are as follows:
Travel on A8003 until you come to Shore road with The Royal An Lochan Hotel on your right and the water's edge is located directly in front of you, here you will turn right and travel up the hill on the B8000 for 0.5miles you will see the Shinty Park on the left, continue for approx 0.4 miles until you get to the four way junction, turn left here (you will see the Post Office/tea room is on your right) then on the right hand bend you will see an open single track road on the left (be careful not to miss this as it is only a small opening, if you pass the Kames village shop on the right hand side you have travelled to far) and travel down this narrow private road down the hill. Note this is a single private road and keep going for a few hundred metres until you get to the bend at the bottom of the hill, turn a sharp right right and follow the fence surrounded by the conifers to the third house on the left. (The second to last house on this private road). Enter the the large car park area at the rear of the the house where you enter the property.
