Introduction Barr Cottage is a steading conversion at Barr Farm on a ridge overlooking Loch Fyne to the West of Minard. It offers fabulous views down the Loch and to the hills and mountains beyond. It has been refurbished recently to a very high standard. Interior Barr Cottage has two spacious bedrooms, a double and twin, a family bathroom including a double ended bath with rain shower over, a large dining kitchen with newly fitted units including a built in oven, microwave, fridge freezer and a separate ceramic hob. There is a dishwasher and washing machine to help with those essential chores.
The large open-plan kitchen/dining area is perfect for entertaining and has views over the cottage garden and hills beyond, with a window seat for bird and wildlife spotting.
The cosy sitting room has a wood-burning stove for relaxing evenings in the glow of a real fire. There is a flat screen TV/DVD in the sitting room. The sitting room has views across the farm, down the Loch and of the patio and garden. Barr Cottage is fully centrally heated with hot water on demand. It has double-glazed sash windows and is well insulated, keeping it snug in the winter and cool in the summer.
To the front of the cottage is a patio / barbeque area with a raised-bed kitchen herb garden for the cooks amongst you. The cottage garden is mostly lawn with access to a larger lawn area for badminton, croquet, ball sports or picnics. Barr Cottage also boasts a wonderful array of garden and woodland birds. We are occasionally visited by red squirrels and pine martins and there are buzzards, eagles, otters and deer in the forests and lochans around the farm.
There is ample parking for cars and space for a boat/trailer; we also have secure storage available for your mountain bikes and / or kayaks leaving your car clutter-free for day trips.
Explore Barr Cottage is a wonderful base from which to explore the boundless historical, archaeological, botanical and scenic attractions that are on offer in this beautiful region, to the many leisure pursuits including walking, hiking, cycling, fishing, kayaking and sailing. There is something for all.
Loch Fyne is well known for diving and sea fishing and the changing shoreline, myriad small bays, islands and shoals offer interesting paddling for kayaks or canoes.
The Loch is within easy reach along farm and forestry tracks and footpaths via part of the Brainport Heritage trail for walking or mountain biking. The shoreline is rocky along much of the coastal path but it opens out into a sheltered shingle bay at Brainport where you can spot seabirds, herons, seals and occasionally an otter at play.
For those of you who require access to the water, there is a small car park with trailer launch access from the compacted pebble shore at the head of Minard village. This car park is also the start of a shore walk that heads towards Brainport Bay and meanders through the woodland to join the circular heritage trail.

We had a wonderful stay at Barr Cottage last week.
The cottage itself was absolutely beautiful and is one of the best self catering cottages that we have ever stayed in, if not THE very best! It was beautifully equipped, with everything you could possibly need, and more!
In spite of the wonderfully wet Argyll weather we found lots to do, and managed to see some bits of Argyll which we hadn’t seen before, which was great. John and Victoria were lovely, and it was a shame we didn’t meet them until the last day as they had been delayed on return from holiday.
I had my eye on the cottage on Facebook for a long time and it totally lived up to expectations. Hopefully we will return!

Barr cottage is perfect. Country cottage vibes with all modern comfort. Everything was so well equipped which made self catering so easy. Cosy and warm too! Birds and wildlife right outside the door and view of loch from window in the lounge. Would love to return.

We loved our stay at Barr Cottage. Next time we will stay longer than two nights. There is so much to see and do! The cottage has a lot of space, a well equipped kitchen, a lovely bench in front of a window to watch birds and squirrels and comfortable beds. The bathroom has a rain shower, the cottage is surrounded by green lanes and the owners Victoria and John are very friendly. Thanks to their advice we experienced some interesting trips. We can highly recommend this wonderful place to people who don't need the busy city.
A great place!
4.8/5 star Upfront review July 2018
What a great place! A stylish renovation, a well-equipped old cottage with all the modern conveniences, tranquil setting, Loch Fyne in the distance. We loved watching the birds and red squirrels on the feeders. A lovely welcome from John & Victoria, with flapjack and fresh flowers. They were friendly and helpful without ever being intrusive. A really relaxing stay.
A wonderful experience

My friends and I had a great stay at the cotttage. It is even more beautiful than in the pictures. The house is spotless and had everything we need. The hosts are very welcoming and gave us all the information we needed. Victoria made us an amazing lemon drizzle cake too which was a lovely thought so thank you for that. The scenery around this area is stunning. We were blessed with lovely weather which made it even better. All in all it was everything we were looking for and more to get a break away from the city. I would highly recommend
A very enjoyable property

Restored & Relaxed at Barr Cottage
5 star Upfront Review April 2018
Barr Cottage exceeded our expectations! The property and our hosts embodied the spirit of Scotland!
We were warmly welcomed and shown the ins/outs of the property by our hosts. The cottage was spotless, well-equipped, comfortable, modern, convenient, warm, cozy, tons of amenities (I found the apron!) and full of literature of the nearby walks, restaurants, and attractions. The kitchen had everything we needed - the DW was great to have, but we did not use. We did use the W/D, as we had been traveling for a week already. We really enjoyed the fire stove in the LR and were eager to return home each evening to relax with a glass of wine or local brew with a warm fire.
We loved the location - for us it was a perfect home base to explore on our first visit. We were not interested in spending our days in the car, and we found more than we could ever want to see/do within 90 minutes of the cottage. The grounds and view were spectacular. We enjoyed watching the neighbor's sheep frolic every day. One of our favorite outings was a drive to Gigha Island - taking a scenic drive and ferry over to the island. Our hosts were full of ideas and suggestions but were respectful of our privacy. We also enjoyed our final meal at Samphire in Inveraray, nearby. The Barr Cottage experience was the highlight of our two week UK visit. Thank you!
Lambs and Daffodils in Abundance!
5 Star Upfront review April 2018
Barr cottage is just delightful both inside and outside. We loved the open views over fields and loch , the bird feeder that attracted a variety of birds including the Great Spotted Woodpecker , and a lovely red squirrel with the bushiest tail! Inside - the efficient central heating and wood-burning stove kept the chilly April weather at bay. We were very cosy! The cottage has been expertly renovated to provide a modern kitchen and dining with everything one would require,a spacious bathroom , a living room with loads of books and games ,and very comfortable bedrooms - all beautifully decorated. We would love to return.
Relaxing country cottage
5 star Upfront review July 2017
We highly recommend Barr Cottage for a relaxing stay in a less visited part of Scotland. The setting was picturesque, with white sheep on green rolling hills, near many important prehistoric landmarks, quaint villages and good restaurants. Our hosts were wonderful! The cottage was immaculate and roomy. We would love to come back one day!
Paradise in Minard

My wife and I have been on a "travel the world" adventure since November of 2015 and have stayed at so many VRBO rentals and have been extremely happy. I came across Barr Cottage looking for a place to stay for 3 nights in between some longer stays in Scotland. When we started driving into Argyle and passed through Inveraray, I was stunned by the beauty of the area. Following John and Victoria's percise directions to the cottage we reached it in the late afternoon. Beverly and I were so happy when we walked into this clean, charming well laid out cottage. Set behind their house in a beautiful garden, it was totally private and quiet. The house has everything you need including an amazing kitchen with be best of cookware, plates and utensils. It was definitely set up to cook gourmet dinners. John and Victoria set up a local fish and produce truck to stop by and we bought some of freshest fish, fruit and vegetable I've ever had. We are in "Paradise in Minard". John and Victoria were charming and helped us get settled and with some local hiking information. The area around the cottage is rich with ancient Scottish history and we filled our two days with hikes and visiting the local museum. I wished I had more time to spend in the area and if I get back that way, I will be staying at the Barr Cottage again (if available).

excellent accommodation

This was an excellent "find" because you never quite know, even with photos, what it will be like. The house was faultless, and the proprietor was delightful. We will be back.

A lovely re-charge of the batteries - Thank you
Upfront review September 2016
We were made to feel very welcome by our hosts. The cottage is lovely and in a good place for visiting many places in the surrounding area. We felt that the on-line photographs didn't do the property justice. We could have stayed a lot longer as we felt so relaxed and at home!
Perfect Pet Free Warm Cosy Cottage
5 star Tripadvisor review left on Aug 25, 2016 for a stay in Aug 2016
I suffer from a severe allergy to dogs and therefore it can be a nightmare trying to find a holiday rental where the owners are true to their word concerning not allowing any pets into the property including their own. The owners were extremely helpful when replying to our questions prior to booking the property. The owners live in an adjacent property and were very helpful friendly and approachable, yet allowed you to enjoy your holiday in peace. The cottage is extremely clean, cosy and warm. The cottage has an amazing shower and having enjoyed the wonderful countryside there was nothing better than returning to this cottage for a hot shower, and a lovely meal before settling down in front of the wood burner with a wee dram or two. We enjoyed horse riding, mackerel fishing at Tarbert and hiring a boat at Loch Awe. This property is the perfect base for a winter or a summer getaway, well done to the owners for creating such a perfect holiday property and thank you for helping us to have such a wonderful holiday.
Guest Book Reviews August 2015 You have thought of everything in this lovely cottage - it makes a holiday more special when your accommodation is this good. Thank you. PS. Saw four eagles above the cottage and a red squirrel enjoying the birds nuts!!
Guest Book Reviews July 2015 What a beautiful place to spend some time away from home - the cottage is so cosy and made a great base from which to explore. Victoria and John you have thought of everything, we could not wish for anything else - Thank you.

Guest Book Reviews June 2015 Delightful décor! Cosy and well appointed cottage with delightful outside views. Lots to do and eat nearby. The woods are like fairy glades. Lochs and mountains are gorgeous. Thank you North Carolina, USA
Guest Book Reviews June 2015 Thank you so much John and Victoria, from all four of us, for making us so welcome giving us such a superb location in this beautiful area. The cottage itself is so beautifully equipped and nice and comfortable, as well as being spacious. We thoroughly enjoyed a lovely walk in the grounds of Crarae Garden in perfect sunshine, and admired the splendid view and criss-crossing streams! We have also enjoyed meals out and meals in, with advantage of the tables and chairs outside the cottage, beautiful.
